China's trade surplus fell by 42.5 percent in the first six months this year from a year earlier to $55.3 billion, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said Saturday.

In the first half of 2010, exports rose 35.2 percent to $705.09 billion while imports were up 52.7 percent to $649.79 billion, the GAC said in a statement posted on its official website.

海关总署10日公布今年上半年中国外贸进出口情况。据海关统计，1至6月中国进出口总值13548.8亿美元，比去年同期（下同）增长43.1%。其中出口7050.9亿美元，增长35.2%；进口6497.9亿美元，增长52.7%；贸易顺差为553亿美元，下降42.5%。
